Dos and don’ts we found that work with setting up a technology team in a church.

This should not be one person. No one person can not keep up with technology in today age. This should be a team of people, each with their own abilities brought to the table and it should be a team effort.

Members of the team should have some kind of back ground in the following areas; web-site development, sound board systems, computers and networking systems, data base development, photo and video systems and people with artistic ability need to be part of this team.

If you do not have the people with this ability in your church, then you will need to go out side the member ship of your church. First try other churches in your area and you may make up a team that covers several churches. As they say spread the knowledge. Do not be afraid to go to other churches for help. From time to time you will need to contract a company for knowledge or services.

The team should be responsible for all of the electronic in the church. This includes sound equipment, computers, viewers, VCR’s, DVD’s TV’s and any other electronic equipment. This is needed so all of the electronics work together when needed.

The reason for a team is that computer systems, telephony systems, audio systems, lighting and video systems all interact with each other in today’s age. And any one who says other wise dose not have much back ground in technology.

This team should fall under the Add Board or Church Council like finance, trustees and other committees and should not be a sub under another committee; this team will became very important to the church in the future and needs to report directly to the Add Board.

As time go’s on you will find that you will need a multimedia director to coordinate music, sound, lighting, video, pastor and the choir for a full worship service.

From time to time some people talk about purchasing rebuilt equipment over new equipment. We have found that it dues not pay. New equipment will last longer with less trouble and the warranty is worth it.

Also we have found that buying business level equipment pays for itself. It last longer, can do more with it. In other words, you get what you pay for. When it comes to Hi technology, cheaper is not better.
